DODGE CITY - Wilma Rose (Davis) Bryan, 93, of Dodge City, died on August 13, 2017, at Manor of the Plains in Dodge City. She was the youngest of five siblings born to William Galen and Leona Belle (Taylor) Davis on April 18, 1924, on a Gray County farm one-half mile north of Haggard.
Wilma attended Ensign and Montezuma public schools and graduated from Dodge City Senior High in 1942 and Dodge City Junior College in 1944. She loved to travel and one of her favorite places to visit was New Mexico. She lived and worked in Albuquerque for one year shortly after graduating from Junior College.
On September 19, 1948, she married Ellsworth Victor Bryan, Jr. at St. Cornelius Episcopal Church in Dodge City. After marrying, they moved to Lawrence, where their first child, David Ellsworth Bryan was born. In 1950, she and Ellsworth moved back to the Bryan Family Farm south of Cimarron. In the 1960s she worked at the Cimarron Insurance Company until their second child, Malinda Rose Bryan was born. Wilma enjoyed playing bridge, bowling, dancing, and visiting with her many friends.
She was a member of the local VFW Ladies Auxiliary and the Order of the Eastern Star.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents; brother, Norris Taylor Davis; sister, Elsie Alene (Davis) Groebe; brother, Galen Thurman Davis; and sister, Lois Virginia (Davis) Holden. She is survived by her son, David (Shelley) and daughter, Malinda (Jeff Smith); grandsons Matthew (Minnie) Bryan, Steve Bryan, and Christopher (Melanie) Bryan; and great-grandchildren, Henry, John and Daisy Bryan.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, August 19, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the Cimarron Cemetery. There will be no viewing as cremation has taken place. The family suggests that memorial donations be made to the Cimarron City Library or Gray County EMS in care of Swaim Funeral Chapel – 1901 Sixth – Dodge City, Kansas 67801.
