WORLEY TENNIS SHULTZ

Ashland - Worley Tennis Shultz, 92, died June 29, 2013 at Ashland Health Center, Ashland,Kansas He was born on December 7, 1920 at Canute, Oklahoma the son of Floyd and Nora (Schuler) Shultz, one of eight children.

In 1942 he enlisted in the U.S. Army. Upon completion of his service, he attended college at Weatherford, Oklahoma to become a watchmaker in May of 1952.

He married Betty Thomas of Canute, Oklahoma. They moved to Dodge City where Worley worked for Bangs Jewelry in 1952. They had two children, Kathleen and Lane. They later divorced. He married Irene Reynolds on May 19, 1972. They later started Shultz Jewelry in Dodge City where Worley was a certified and precious stone gemologist. He was the designated watchmaker for engineers of Santa Fe Railroad. Upon retirement, Worley and Irene moved to Ashland where they enjoyed fishing at Clark County Lake. In recent years they made their home at Ashland Retirement Center where they enjoyed a wonderful life with an extremely caring staff. Worley was a wonderful father who set a great example of humanity and humility. He taught his children to put the Lord first in their lives. He was greatly loved and will be missed.

He was a member of First Christian Church of Dodge City where he was a Sunday School teacher, church elder, church treasurer. He was also a Boy Scout leader and was in the Optomist Club.

Worley is survived by his two sons Lane Shultz and wife Peggy, Mannford, Oklahoma and Roger Reynolds of Wilroads Garden; two daughters Kathleen Alps and husband George of Longmont, Colorado and Barbara Crowder of Durango, Colorado; 14 grandchildren and 13 Great Grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Irene Shultz of 41 years on June 28, 2013, parents, and all of his brothers and sisters.

Graveside service will be held at 2 PM on Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at Greencrest Cemetery, Dodge City with Rev. Dick Robbins presiding and military rites by Howard Gotschall Post #1714, V.F.W. and KSARNG. Visitation will be from 2:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Tuesday, July 2, 2013.
