IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Nona
Chaffin
June 30, 1942 – December 18, 2017
Overland Park - Nona Chaffin, 75, died December 18, 2017 at her home in Overland Park. She was born on June 30, 1942 at Ness City, the daughter of Eugene Worth and Winona Mae (Newcomb) Damon.
Nona was a graduate of Olathe High School. Following graduation, she attended Emporia State Teacher's College where she met Bill W. Chaffin, her husband of almost 44 years. Nona and Bill joined the family business shortly afterwards. Nona helped the Chaffin Family build their chain, Gibson's Discount Centers, until they sold it in January of 1992. Nona and Bill then established Rayne Company which she took over following Bill's death November 30, 2004.
She loved spending time with her family, traveling, and reading. Nona was involved in many social activities including bridge clubs and book clubs. Bill and Nona were longtime supporters of the Williams Education Fund at the University of Kansas. After splitting 15 years between Dodge City and Rio Verde, Arizona, Nona moved to Overland Park, Kansas in June of 2013.
Nona's grandsons, Joey and Nick, were her greatest pride and joy. She attended nearly every activity in which they participated in and truly enjoyed watching them grow into the fine young men they are today. The three of them shared a special bond that each will cherish forever.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Dodge City, Rio Verde Community Church of Rio Verde, Arizona where she served on the Scholarship Committee, P.E.O. Sisterhood Chapter CF of Cimarron, Founding member of Women of Inspiration through the Community Foundation of Southwest Kansas, and the Dodge City Country Club.
Nona is survived by her son, Brian Chaffin of Overland Park; a daughter, Stephanie Franzitta and husband Orris of Cimarron; and two grandsons, Joseph Franzitta of Ottawa and Nicholas Franzitta of Cimarron. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Bill Chaffin and a sister, Sherry Ann Cox.
