Garden City – Preston Edward Miller, 70, died April 10, 2019 in Wichita. He was born on November 11, 1948 in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of Charles and Dorothy Miller.
Preston moved several times during his childhood. He graduated from Cameron High School in Cameron, Missouri. After graduation, Preston enlisted in the United States Army. He was honorably discharged on June 1, 1976. Preston then attended college at Kansas State University where he graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering. After graduation, Preston worked for the Kansas Department of Corrections as a parole officer. After his retirement, he also served as a substitute teacher for the Garden City School District. Preston enjoyed woodworking and golfing. He also enjoyed riding his motorcycle, even riding it all the way to Alaska.
Preston is survived by a brother, Bruce Miller and wife Kathy of Wichita and a niece, Emily Miller of Seattle, Washington. He is preceded in death by his parents.
Graveside service will be held at Fairview Cemetery, Montezuma on Saturday, May 18, 2019 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Eddie Pennington presiding. Military honors will be provided by KSARNG Military Honor Guard and the American Legion. There is no visitation as cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Finney County Humane Society in care of Swaim Funeral Chapel – PO Box 421 – Montezuma, Kansas 67867.
